Before you ring

Lift one inspection cover before you ring us

A quick look under your nearest drain cover tells us where the blockage sits. It takes a minute, and it means the engineer brings the right kit first time.

  1. Find the cover nearest the house, often on the drive or a path, and lift it with a spade or screwdriver

  2. If the chamber is full of water, the blockage is further down the run, nearer the road

  3. If the chamber is empty and the house is backing up, the blockage sits between the house and that cover

If the cover is heavy or stuck, leave it for us. Stop using water, then tell us what you saw when you call.

Local drainage problems

Why do blocked drains keep coming back in Ascot?

Blocked drains in Ascot usually come back for one of four reasons, and three of them start in the ground itself. The town sits on the sandy soil of the Thames Basin Heaths, among large gardens and mature trees. Finding the real cause is what stops you paying twice.

Book a Camera Check

Why does sand end up inside the pipe?

Ascot is built on sandy ground. When an old joint cracks, sand and soil wash in with the rain and settle as silt along the bottom of the pipe. Jetting clears the silt the same day, and a camera then shows which joint let it in, so the right fix goes in once.

How do tree roots get into the drain?

Roots grow to find water. Sandy ground drains fast, so a leaking joint is often the wettest spot in the garden. Fine roots slip through the gap and grow into a mat that catches paper and fat. We cut them back inside the pipe and can reline the joint so they stay out.

Why do big gardens mean more blockages?

The local neighbourhood plan keeps much of Ascot as detached homes set in their own gardens. That brings long private drain runs, with several bends and inspection chambers between the house and the road. Every extra joint is another place for roots and silt to collect, so a survey of the whole run gives you the full picture.

Can a soakaway that has stopped draining be fixed?

Often, yes. Rainwater soakaways in Ascot slowly fill with silt from the sandy soil, so water sits on the lawn or backs up the downpipe after rain. We jet the pipes, check the soakaway with a camera, and tell you whether clearing it will do or it needs rebuilding.

Roots and protected trees

Can tree roots be cut out of a drain safely?

Yes. We cut roots from inside the pipe, so the tree stays standing and the garden stays as it is. That matters in Ascot, where local planning rules work hard to keep mature trees.

Root cutting and relining both work from the inspection chamber, leaving lawns and drives in place.
How are roots cut from inside the pipe?

A cutting head goes in through the nearest inspection chamber and spins through the roots inside the drain. It only touches what has grown into the pipe. The camera goes back in afterwards so you can see the pipe is clear.

What if the tree is protected?

The Ascot, Sunninghill and Sunningdale Neighbourhood Plan asks for mature trees to be kept, and some trees are also covered by a Tree Preservation Order or stand in a conservation area, such as part of Sunningdale. Cutting from inside the pipe keeps the work away from the tree itself. If a repair ever needs digging near a protected tree, we tell you first, so you can check with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead before anything starts.

How do you keep roots from coming back?

Roots return through the same open joint. Relining the pipe from the inside seals that joint, so the drain stays clear and the tree carries on as normal.

Drains under a busy kitchen or a shared site stay clearer with a regular jetting visit, which keeps roots, silt and fat in check.

Whose drain is it?

Who pays when the drain is shared or under the road?

It depends where the blockage sits, and a quick camera check shows exactly that.

In Ascot, three different owners can be behind one flooded road. Pipes inside your boundary that serve only your home are yours. Sewers shared with neighbours, and most pipes beyond your boundary, belong to Thames Water. Station Hill showed how this works: flooding under the railway bridge eased in January 2025 once the council cleared its gullies and Thames Water removed a blockage in its sewer. If the fault is on someone else's side, we show you the footage and point you to the right team.

How it works

What happens after you call about a blocked drain

Ascot call-out Step 01 / 03
  1. Start here

Tell us what the drain is doing

Call, book online or send a WhatsApp message. Give us the postcode and what you saw under the cover, and you get a rough idea of cost straight away.

  2. Look first

One fixed price before we start

The engineer finds the fault, shows you on the camera where it helps, and gives you one figure. Work starts only when you say yes.

  3. Job done

    Cleared, checked and tidied

We clear or repair the drain, run water through to prove it flows, and leave the area clean. If something bigger turns up on the way, we stop and talk it through with you. You pay once the work is finished.

Straight pricing

How much does it cost to unblock a drain in Ascot?

As a guide, drain unblocking costs around £100 in 2026, according to MyJobQuote's September price guide. The same guide puts rodding at £80 to £145, jetting at £70 to £175 and camera surveys at £90 to £350. Night and weekend calls can run from £100 to £200. Your Ascot job is priced on what the engineer actually finds.

You get one fixed price once the engineer has looked. The price you agree is the price you pay, with nothing added at the end, unless agreed with you beforehand. A long silted run, heavy roots or a cracked pipe take more work than a simple blockage, and you will know that before anything starts.

Excellent service quality and the best price! The person was very friendly, my drain got unclog, and I even had a guarantee (for a month or two, can't remember) that if the problem came back, they would come for free. That's the kind of worker that you're happy to pay - highly recommended

Ascot drainage FAQs

Drainage questions we hear from Ascot homes and businesses

Straight answers on night call-outs, business kitchens, tenants, house buying and local sewers.

Do you come out at night or on a Sunday?

Yes. 24hrs Drainage answers the phone 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including bank holidays. Calls at night or at weekends can cost a little more, and you will know the price before anyone starts work.

Do you clear drains for restaurants and pubs in Ascot?

Yes. We work with restaurants, pubs, shops, offices, schools and care homes, and Royal Ascot week in June puts extra strain on busy kitchens. See how we look after drainage for pubs, shops and offices, or read our drainage tips for Ascot businesses.

Can you deal with a blocked drain for my tenant?

Yes. Landlords and letting agents can book for a tenant, and we send the price to you before any work starts. Where a camera goes in, you get the footage and a short note of what we found.

Can you check the drains before I buy in Ascot?

Yes. A pre-purchase drain survey runs a camera through the whole private run and reports its condition before you exchange. On a large Ascot plot that run can be long, so it pays to know what you are buying.

Did the upgrade at Ascot sewage works fix sewer flooding?

It helps. Thames Water spent £11 million at Ascot Sewage Treatment Works, finished in 2024, and lifted its capacity by 30% to cope with storms and high groundwater. That work sits at the treatment works, so blockages in your own pipes and local sewers are still cleared as they happen, and we can tell you which one you have.

Ascot drainage help

Sandy ground keeps your garden dry and fills your drains

Most people think sandy soil means drains that stay clear. In Ascot the sand is part of the problem, because it washes into old joints and slowly silts up the pipe. Clearing it sorts today. Finding the joint that let it in sorts next winter too. Our drainage services in Ascot cover both, at any hour, for one agreed price. Call, book online or send a WhatsApp message.

No obligation, and you will be told straight if the drain belongs to someone else.
